Headed out to the Sacandaga reservoir few weekends ago to volunteer for the ice races. If you don't know, it's a bunch of motorheads bringing out their quads and dirtbikes with studded tires and extended fenders to race a quarter mile track on the ice. We endured harsh winds and blasts of ice powder to flag the corners. Ice and studded tires gives excellent traction unlike the dirt track, as motorcyclists executed extreme lean angles through the turns with confidence. Unfortunately, this also proved a problem with a few amateur quad riders. Rather than high side from oversteering, quads would spin out on the ice and take out the traffic cones that line the track (it was so cold, the cones froze over and shattered on impact). At the break before the main races, everyone headed to the pub on the beach to warm up and down a few beers. It's an excellent time, but unless you're racing, there's little rationale to freezing your ass off standing on a frozen lake bed.
the beach
lining up
plow hits the track every few races or so... or after every quad race... fucking quads
deep lean angles
sweet catch can, bro
powder snaking across the lake
yep.
